Various groups at Stanford are involved in researching or designing persuasive technologies. Below is a partial list, along with brief explanations.

Stanford Persuasive Technology Lab
Housed at Stanford's Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI), the Persuasive Technology Lab investigates the theory, design, and analysis of computers as persuasive technologies. The Lab also sponsors specialized research groups in captology and collaborates with industry partners.

Web Credibility Team
Having conducted studies on Web credibility that include more than 6,500 participants, this team understands what elements lead people to believe things they find on the web. For more information, see our Web credibility site.

Education and Technology
BJ Fogg teaches a graduate seminar on Persuasive Technology and Education for Stanford's Learning, Design & Technology Program. You can get an idea of what this seminar covers by looking over the old website of a previous class

Captology Courses
A captology class has been offered in Stanford's Computer Science Department (CS377) since 1997. Some of the class websites are still online, though these sites are not maintained. The Winter 2003 course on captology is done, and projects from the Spring 2003 seminar on mobile persuasion continue as Lab projects. The next captology course will be in Spring 2004.
